You are Buddhists
You perform continuously
The rituals in
temples
You are Hindus
For your pleasure
You carry out
so many
Decorously.
You are Muslims
You perform “ Salath”-
Prayers five times
a day.
Having eaten
to fill
The belly,
You dumped deeply
In the debris
basket
Kept beautifully close
to your house
The remnants of
what you had
eaten
To the full
belly.
Near you home
We did not come
Begging from you
Carrying the begging
bowl.
Nevertheless-
We come to see
Whether anything
Is found in
the drainage
Stagnating
close to your
home
Bearing severe ache
Do you know why?
You are the
high caste
We are the
destitute.
Hence-
We are the
lowest;
Paradise is
for you
Since we do
not get it .
This world is
To be a
hell
For us.
You make speech
Abundantly
Having arranged
The stage
You catch sight
of us
Near the stage
With dirty clothes
And torn bags
While we are
gazing at you
In standing posture
Stretching out our
tongues
Like dogs-
For the worst
part of it…..
You scold
That we are
shameless
Birth-
Your religious colour
And ethnic colour
With haughty status
Give us only
love upon you.
You are laughing
We are not
sleeping
Even for a
wink of eyes.
Our stomach hunger
Burns us severely
We feel grieved
Over why we
were born
And shed tears.
A good food
Even for your
domestic dogs
You turn down
Giving even what
remains
After dog’s eating
Because your eagle’s
eyes
Upon our being the
lowest in caste
Make terrible dance.
The clothes we
put on
Are the clothes
thrown
By you into
debris
Hide our naked ness
Some how or
other.
Before you go to
Paradise
Will you offer
us
A draught of
water
Through its door
side
With your hands?
Because we have
Drunk water from
The hands of the
The holy people
We too may
get
A place
In paradise.
